Tintara Winery

Old Bottles

Australia's oldest wine

The oldest existing bottle of Australian wine is in fact a Tintara wine.

It is nearly 140 years old!

An 1867 Tintara Vineyards Association Claret, exported to the UK in the early 1870's, it was purchased by a collector in 1977 and recently returned to Australia.

This piece of history may now be seen in the Hardys Tintara Cellar Door in McLaren Vale.

Tintara Ferruginous

Another fine example of Tintara heritage is this Burgoyne era bottle of Tintara wine

This red wine was marketed in the UK, in the late 1800's, by Burgoyne's. With the unlikely name of Tintara Ferruginous, it was a very popular wine at the time and one of Hardy's best-known products.

MEDICAL TIMES: "The TINTARA is a natural wine of generous qualities grown on ferruginous soil & possesses high tonic & invigorating properties. ..mature, pre-eminent, full bodied.." Dr. Druitt RS FRCS
